Our Ontario and New Brunswick Experience

While GLG Immigration Consulting Services assists clients with Provincial Nominee Programs across Canada, we have developed particular experience with the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) and the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP).

Ontario’s provincial immigration system has recently undergone its most significant redesign in years. The previous OINP streams have been closed and replaced with the new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream, introducing updated eligibility requirements, a new Expression of Interest system and revised selection criteria. Keeping current with these changes is essential when assessing eligibility and preparing an application.

Recent Changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)

Ontario has launched the new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream Expression of Interest system as part of Phase 1 of its program redesign, with further program changes expected under Phase 2 following the initial rollout.  

​

• Program Redesign: Ontario has replaced the previous eight OINP streams with the new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream as part of a multi-phase redesign of the provincial immigration program.  

• Simplified Pathways: The redesign streamlines employer-supported immigration into a single program with pathways for skilled workers, essential workers and eligible self-employed physicians.  

• Higher Eligibility Standards: New language and education requirements have been introduced to strengthen program integrity and better align nominations with Ontario’s workforce needs.  

• New Expression of Interest (EOI) System: Ontario has implemented a revised EOI scoring system that places greater emphasis on labour market factors such as occupation, wages, Ontario work experience, education and language ability.  

• Regional & Employer Focus: The redesigned program provides greater flexibility for employers in rural and northern Ontario while continuing to focus on addressing labour shortages across the province.  

• Additional Changes Coming: The Workforce Priority Stream represents only the first phase of Ontario’s redesign, with additional streams and program enhancements expected as Phase 2 is implemented.

Recent Changes to New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)

​

• Sector-Based Priorities: New Brunswick has narrowed invitations under the NB Experience pathway of the Skilled Worker Stream to candidates working in the healthcare, education and construction sectors until further notice.  

• Labour Market Focus: The province continues to align its nomination priorities with current labour market needs, with selection rounds targeting occupations experiencing the greatest shortages.  

• Invitation-Based Selection: Receiving an Expression of Interest or meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee an Invitation to Apply, as invitations are issued based on provincial priorities, available nomination allocations and program-specific criteria.  

• Limited Nomination Allocations: New Brunswick continues to manage a limited number of annual nomination spaces, resulting in targeted invitations and increased competition for available nominations.  

• Program Priorities May Change: Immigration priorities, targeted occupations and selection criteria may be updated without notice as the province responds to changing economic conditions and labour market demands.
